[Discover Treasure Base] Customized One WTGS, One Storage, How Can Windey Solve the Problem of Large-Scale Offshore Wind Power Energy Storage?

Time:2023-06-21 Number:0 From:Windey

In the southeast sea area of Nantian Island in Xiangshan, Ningbo, huge white windmills are “rising out of the sea”, each of which has a height of more than 43 floors and a blade diameter up to 225 meters. In the case of an annual average wind speed of 8.5m/s in the typhoon sea, it can generate equivalent power for more than 4,000 hours a year...

This is the largest offshore wind power project under construction in Zhejiang Province - China Guodian Xiangshan Offshore Wind Farm Phase II Project (hereinafter referred to as Xiangshan Offshore Wind Power Phase II), which was jointly built by Zhejiang Windey Co., Ltd. and has now been included in the list of key construction projects for the 14th Five-Year Plan of Zhejiang Province. Once connected to grid with full capacity, it is expected to achieve an annual on-grid power up to 1.64 billion kilowatt hours. The problem of energy storage in such a large-scale offshore wind power project has always troubled many industry insiders. Let's see How can Windey solve this problem.

Annual CO2 emission reduction of millions of tons: Windey participates in building the largest offshore wind farm in Zhejiang

Xiangshan offshore wind farm covers a total area of 58.9 square kilometers, and has a total installed capacity of 504 megawatts. It is equipped with a total of 56 Windey offshore WTGS with a single unit capacity of 9 megawatts, and the total investment is about 6 billion yuan.

According to the relevant responsible person of Windey, after the first stage of pile sinking test is completed, the project has entered the overall construction stage, and the construction of the 56 WTGS has been fully launched. The subsequent work such as wind turbine foundation and installation will also be carried out simultaneously.

For Xiangshan offshore wind power phase II, due to the remote construction water area, large number of construction ships and personnel, and variable climate and sea conditions, there are many uncertainties. In such a construction environment, Windey highly values, carefully organizes, and effectively ensures the construction safety and technical safety measures are prepared in place, to guarantee the safe delivery of the project with highly reliable products and services.

After the full-capacity grid connection of this large-scale offshore wind power project, it is expected to achieve an annual on-grid power up to 1.64 billion kilowatt hours. Compared with traditional coal-fired thermal power units, it can reduce standard coal consumption by 532500 tons and carbon emissions by 1.0217 million tons, which is of great significance for improving the energy structure of Zhejiang Province, ensuring the safety of power supply, meeting the growth of regional electricity demand, promoting the high-quality development of local economy and protecting the ecological environment.

One WTGS, One Storage: Windey provides efficient solution for offshore wind power system

With the goal of “30·60” carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, accelerating the construction of new power systems has great significance for promoting green and low-carbon energy transformation in China, and energy storage is a key link. However, the energy storage of far-reaching offshore wind power projects has been troubling the industry. In this regard, the project leader of Windey stated: Windey has been actively exploring the technical path of promoting the synchronous construction and grid connection of ‘offshore wind power + new energy storage'. In order to better build the Xiangshan offshore wind power project, we have innovated and launched a customized energy storage system solution of ‘One WTGS, One Storage’. By configuring energy storage equipment with an installed capacity of 6%/1 hour for each WTGS, it can save the cost of land acquisition for configuring centralized energy storage equipment, greatly increase the economic benefits of investment and construction of wind farm, and realize the optimal economic linkage operation of energy storage and new energy power generation.”

The Windey offshore wind power “One WTGS, One Storage” system has the functions of active participation in the primary frequency regulation of the power grid, smooth wind power generation output characteristics, long-term wind turbine main control system power backup, anti-typhoon backup power supply, and remote black start, as well as the characteristics of good adaptability to the grid, high operation reliability, intelligent and convenient operation and maintenance, and can withstand the test of harsh environments such as high altitude, frequent sandstorms, high salt mist, and high humidity.

Wind power in far-reaching sea area: Windey launched a powerful equipment to help the high-quality development of offshore wind power in China

China has a long coastline, numerous islands, and abundant offshore wind resources, making it very suitable for large-scale development and construction of offshore wind farms. The Action Plan for Carbon Peak before 2030 points out that we should pay equal attention to onshore and offshore wind power, promote coordinated and rapid development of wind power, improve the offshore wind power industry chain, and encourage the construction of offshore wind power bases. With the encouragement of national policies and the support of local subsidy mechanisms, the offshore wind power in China continuously develops towards far-reaching areas, opening up a new development situation of offshore wind power with long cycle and high growth.

Windey has seized development opportunities, and been exploring the wind power in far-reaching sea area. With the strength of onshore wind power and integrated energy services, it launched a powerful equipment for comprehensively advancing offshore wind power in 2021 - the 9.XMW Haiyao Platform Offshore WTGS. The platform adopts intelligent control strategies such as anti-typhoon control, storm crossing control, and self-adaptation control, which can ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of offshore wind power project.

In 2022, in response to the development and construction of wind power projects in far-reaching sea areas and the promotion of high-quality energy development, Windey accelerated the development of the “Offshore and Overseas Strategy” and launched the 15.XMW Haiying Platform Offshore WTGS, which can be applied to far-reaching sea areas with annual wind speeds over 9m/s. In terms of design and development, it broke through the key technologies such as offshore turbine integration, wind - wave - current coupling control, and anti-typhoon strategy, and has higher power generation performance, lower cost of energy and better environmental adaptability.

At present, Windey 15.XMW Haiying Platform and 9.XMW Haiyao Platform, covering multiple types of offshore WTGS, can meet the installed demand of the whole sea area. Through providing offshore wind power products and services with higher reliability, higher price performance ratio, and better adaptability, Windey further expands into the far-reaching offshore wind power market.

With the Xiangshan large-scale offshore wind power project as a new starting point, Windey, in the future, will closely focus on the strategic guideline of “Standing on Zhejiang, laying out the whole country and taking a broad view of global sea areas”. While maintaining the dominant position in onshore wind power, Windey will continue to enhance the core competitiveness of offshore wind power products and new energy services, and better support the high-quality development of offshore wind power in China.
